Raspberries are a great natural product for weight loss, they are high in fiber and low in calories, this is great news in the fight against fat.
These fragile and expensive berries are actually from the rose family, but this tiny fruit packs a powerful high-fiber punch.
It is great news that a food as good as this for you is actually enjoyable to eat as well, they very low in fat and calories and also contain 2g of fiber per half a cup. Some of the fiber itself is also insoluble, this keeps you frequent. A lot of the fiber found is actually pectin, this is a soluble fiber known to lower blood cholesterol.
As with many fruits they are a great source of vitamin C (this antioxidant is beneficial to help fight cancer), raspberries also contain a phytochemical, ellagic acid, this is also believed to have anti cancer properties as well.
These mouth-watering berries also contain anthocyanins. These contain antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. This helps keep bacteria and fungi of certain kinds from getting out of control.
Also known to contain Manganese , another antioxidant. Berries have shown time and again that they are great for your body so try to incorporate at least 2 cup full’s in your daily diet.
Raspberries are very fragile, eat them right away and choose and handle them with care. The best berries to look for are the ones brightly colored with no hulls on them. If the berries have green hulls then they will be tart.
Obviously avoid any shriveled or moldy ones, you should be looking for plump, firm, evenly colored and well-shaped berries. NO GREEN!.
It is best to go for ones packed in a single layer container with a clean sweet smell, when you purchase them make sure you eat them within a day.
A great serving suggestion is to take some chilled raspberries and rinse under cold water. If you are looking for a great dessert idea is a top frozen sorbet or angel food cake with whole chilled berries.
Or make a raspberry puree and pour it over a fruit salad, even low-fat cake, waffles etc.
Raspberries in light syrup are a good dessert idea. Puree the berries first in a blender. Add skimmed milk and fresh lemon juice, do it on a low speed, put into an airtight lunchbox and freeze.
Blend up the frozen mixture and refreeze.
