Yacon has been part of the Andean diet for hundreds of years and comes from a south American root, it may also be the next big thing in weight loss.
Not only does it have weight loss abilities, but it also seems that it supports good digestion and blood sugar regulation.
A team at the ‘Dr. Oz Show’ conducted a 28 day test with Yacon syrup which you can check out the results to below.
60 women were asked to take a teaspoon of Yacon syrup with each meal in the day for four weeks, they did not change there usual diet or exercise habits, 40 of the women completed the project:
Previous studies have shown excellent health benefits for Yacon including weight loss.
In 2009 a study was conducted by ‘Clinical Nutrition’ which followed the lives of 55 obese Argentine women who took the recommended course of 3 to 4 teaspoons per day, they were also told to slightly reduce there calorie intake and take 45 mins exercise twice a week. The women who didn’t take the syrup hardly noticed any difference whereas the women who did experienced an average weight loss of 33 pounds and 4 inches off there waist line. This in turn improved there insulin levels, reduced bad cholesterol levels and improved bowel movements.
The syrup is very high in prebiotics, things like insulin and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). The sugars in FOS are found naturally in many different plants. This very prevalent in Yacon Syrup.
FOS is not affected to much by digestive acids in the stomach so reaches the colon undamaged, yacon syrup is very low in calories and helps control and resist constipation.
FOS also feeds good bacteria found in the colon like Bifidus and lactobacillus, this has been shown to be anti-inflammatory and helps boost immunity.
Fos is also great at regulating insulin levels and food intake, in turn this can help control appetite and food cravings, Yacon has much potential to help control diabetes, high-cholesterol and diabetes.
If you thought all that was great we haven’t finished yet, Yacon consumption appears to help increase absorption of dietary minerals, making calcium more bio available, this can increase bone density and heavily restrict the onset of osteoporosis.
A consistency similar to molasses and a sweet taste, tastes a bit like raisins or figs.
If you want to use this for weight loss then take one teaspoon before or during each meal or even use it as a sugar substitute, it can be purchased online or from most health food shops.
Because of it’s bowel movement properties you may want to restrict your intake of it to 1-2 teaspoons per day, bear in mind if heating it up to use in cooking it can reduce some of it’s benefits.
Be sure to comment below with your opinions or experiences, Yacon syrup can be incorporated quite easily within your diet and weight loss is easily assured.
